The Center for Translation Studies (ZTW), University of Vienna educates future translators and Interpreters.
For the proposed future, all individual students will have a knowledge room with internet, a so called "E-Portfolio", at their disposal.
Concrete Project Goals:
The Deployment of the E-Portfolios in course of studies should allow the students an active roll in scheduling studies and requirements for precision creative work "Personal Development Planning." In doing so the Pimary objective is, to ease the crossing of baccalaureates into a Masters Degree. E-Portfolios in the long term should contribute for this purpose, to shorten the duration of study and sink the Drop-Out-Rate. Furthermore, it will also improve the outside perception of the distinction between Translations and expected new linguistic competence.
Implementation
The factline Community Community Server (FCS) was selected as the system to carry the E-Portfolio Software. It was decisive that the disposal of standing Functions (See Presentation from E-Portfolio Angela Gamsriegler ) were given a high degree of freedom for the specific development of didactic Models plus the mutual long-term interest of orientation development collaboration.
In March 2006, a server was installed for the Institute for Translation Studies and the first E-Portfolios activity Pilot was started. In Winter semester 06/07 for the first time a personallized didactic and knowledgeroom were personally provided from Professor Gerhard Budin for a seminar for those writting a master thesis together. The plan is, the workers at the dissertation are to support (especially through literature collections, structuring work, and administering learning books) and for all efficiency to simplify support and therefore substantially boosting efficiency.
